"We'll keep a welcome in the hillside...." This, without doubt, should be Rich, Tom and Chantelle's song as you arrive in Red Kite, one of the best sites in which we have ever stayed. It's immaculate! All 62 of their gravel pitches are generous in size, the top level are Premium Pitches (numbers 1-10) and fully serviced - we stayed on Pitch 6 and had a great view but as the site is terraced you get a lovely view of the glorious Welsh countryside wherever you are. It's an adult's only site so it's peaceful - and, because there are just 62 pitches, it's intimate and friendly. The site is aptly named as Red Kites soar overhead (well, during the warmer weather for sure!) The charming town of Llanidoes is a pleasant 1 mile walk through the campsite and down a path where there are some lovely cafes and Pubs. From the site itself there is a lovely walk through Pen Yr Ally Woods to Clywedog Damn and Hafren Forest is but a short drive away. A timely email from them in November had enticed us to brave the winter months and come to Red Kite to enjoy their New Year's Eve celebrations: Mulled wine, Hot dogs, Fireworks and Bubble - how could we resist! Despite the relentless rain it was well worth the trip - we had a fire-pit to keep us all warm and their barn was also open in case we needed shelter - thankfully the rain let up for the festivities. A brilliant evening!
We've come here in all seasons; Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter and Red Kite never fails to impress us. The facilities are immaculate, they have a great supply of DVD's and books to borrow and you can also stock up on essentials (including wine, beer etc.,!!) at Reception. What a great place!
